AdventureLAB joins BoldMove Nation

AdventureLAB News: June, 2021

AdventureLAB reinforces BoldMove Nation with Integrated Storytelling expertise

Klaus Sommer Paulsen, CEO and Founder of AdventureLAB, is partnering up with BoldMove Nation to support the design and development of themed experiences like Houba City, based on the Belgian franchise Marsupilami.

On June 10th, 2021, BoldMove announced the launch of its new Urban Experience Centre called Houba City — a location-based, all-family entertainment centre, which combines VR, AR and mixed-reality attractions in an immersive themed environment. A network of partners and experts will work together to deliver outstanding experiences to visitors worldwide. AdventureLAB’s Klaus Sommer Paulsen is proud to join the team as Integrated Storytelling Director.

The story universe created by Andre Franquin in 1952 has taken many forms and engaged audiences worldwide for decades as an established multimedia franchise. With the launch of Houba City, BoldMove brings the stories of the jungle to life in a unique urban environment and will welcome families to explore and, first of all, have fun alongside the characters. AdventureLAB will support the development by translating the original story-verse into themed experiences, ensuring an authentic interaction with the characters, and expanding the story-verse with audience interactions.

The storytelling strategy and character development are some of the focus areas for AdventureLAB within this project. Therefore, successful delivery of memorable experiences will also be supported by applying Integrated Storytelling principles— the strategic design approach developed by Klaus Sommer Paulsen.

Anja D’Hondt, Queen of Happy Hearts and Managing Partner at BoldMove, comments:
“It’s a real pleasure to work with Klaus as he adds such valued expertise in a very engaged and inspiring way. Our new Urban Experience Centre, Houba City, requires multi-faceted storytelling across the overall experience and the gameplay of each media-based attraction. Klaus brings a refreshingly creative approach to synchronising the experiential narrative with storyline and character developments.”

In December 2020, the Belgian based company BoldMove stroke cooperation with IP Owner Media Participations to stage world-famous comic characters in location-based entertainment and launched the new indoor concept Houba World, Marsupilami’s great adventures. And in June 2021, BoldMove launched Houba City.

EIC2020: Retail 3.0+ is now also open for online attendance https://www.adventurelabstudio.com/2020/03/09/8521/ Mon, 09 Mar 2020 13:31:53 +0000 http://www.adventurelabstudio.com/?p=8521

For immediate release: AdventureLAB adds virtual access registration to Experience Economy Challenge 2020: Retail 3.0+

March 9th, 2020

In recognition of the increasing concerns regarding the spreading of the coronavirus, which have caused event cancellations such as that of SXSW announced last week, it will now be possible to register for virtual access to Experience Economy Challenge 2020: Retail 3.0+.

The event, also referenced to as EIC2020: Retail is dedicated to advancing the retail industry forward through the innovation of the retail experience. Especially brands with their business anchored in their physical stores have suffered immense setbacks and providing a better, more memorable and valuable, the experience is part of what sets one retailer apart from the next. The future of the industry does not only depend on wares and pricing.

With the premise of EIC2020: Retail being in line with the strategy and thinking established as fundamental elements in the Experience Economy, leading experts Joe Pine (US) and Albert Boswijk (NL) will join the retail professionals partaking in the event scheduled for April 24 in Copenhagen.

The program of the day is divided into two parts:

The Speakers Session with experts sharing their insights and knowledge through talks, panel discussions and Q&A. During this session, new thinking, tactics, technology and trends that will help advance the retail industry forward through experience will be presented and discussed. Service design and retailtainment are just some of the elements to be considered to be a successful competitor in today’s Experience Economy.

The Workshop Session in which attendees will work alongside the experts in defining solutions and tactics for immediate use to improve the retail experience for the benefit of the participants and, to some extent, the industry as a whole. It is a very ambitious event, but ambition, vision and collaboration are what it will take to make a significant change and move things forward. All participants will be appreciated and credited for taking part in developing the future of retail.

The coronavirus outbreak and impact across countries and industries presents both retail and events such as EIC2020: Retail with yet another challenge, but that only emphasise the need for action and innovation even more. Working together to better and advance the matters at hand should not be cancelled or postponed, and technology presents options and alternatives to be utilised to avoid doing so.

The event will still take place in Copenhagen in April, but for those with increasingly limited travelling options, virtual registration will be open for both The Speakers Session and The Workshops Session. Online attendance will, of course, have its limitations compared to actually being there, but participants will still be able to interact and collaborate. The handling of the online part of the event will be based on the years-long experience that AdventureLAB has with online collaboration and interactive training, such as breaking attendees into topic-specific groups, use of platform for interaction etc. Just as the physical EIC2020: Retail event is designed to be more than a conference, the virtual access version is more than a typical webinar.

A limited number of Experience Economy Challenge 2020: Retail 3.0+ Virtual Access tickets are now available on the event website www.eic2020retail.com and Eventbrite: https://eic2020retail.eventbrite.com. Registration for online attendance starts at €250.

For immediate release: One-day event set to transform retail with the Experience Economy

February 1st, 2020

Ambitious Experience Industry Challenge 2020 event sets out to accelerate the retail evolution with the involvement of international Experience Economy experts Joe Pine and Albert Boswijk

In central Copenhagen, Denmark on April 24, a group of 40 people with expertise in retail will join forces in a one-day collaboration with a clearly defined vision and mission: Rethinking the retail experience can revitalise the physical store. Now is the time to go from thought to action and make things happen on an unprecedented scale of reinvention. The goal is not just to push the evolution to the point of the Retail 3.0 experience, but even further forward: Retail 3.0+, which is reflected in the title of the event.

Not another conference

“Experience Industry Challenge 2020: Retail 3.0+ (EIC2020: Retail) is not a conference. It is a one-day mission designed for retail experts to involve them in a collaboration to define and develop what retail can deliver being an active part of the new Experience Economy” says Klaus Sommer Paulsen, CEO & Founder of AdventureLAB. It is the team behind EIC2020, a studio specialised in strategic experience design and integrated storytelling services and training. AdventureLAB has worked with retail brands in Europe and North America, supported by a global network of experienced industry experts. They represent disciplines that nowadays are not only applied for attractions and leisure but are used by many organisations from other industries to position themselves in the 21st-century Experience Economy.

“As an important part of the way we are working, we design custom teams consisting of experts from all around the world, which is very much how our industry of experiences operates,” Klaus Sommer Paulsen continues. “With the angle of EIC2020: Retail being retail converging with the Experience Economy to move forward, it was natural that we asked the best of the best to join us. Luckily, we have a longstanding relationship with Joe Pine and Albert Boswijk, who have agreed to share their knowledge and wisdom and participate actively in EIC2020: Retail. With that level of expertise involved, the role of AdventureLAB is to provide the framework for what we believe will be a ground-breaking event for the future direction of retail experiences.”

Joined by the leading Experience Economy experts

Joe Pine is the world-renowned co-author of “The Experience Economy”, the book that introduced multiple industries to the Experience Economy concept, a term which he and co-author James H. Gilmore coined in a Harvard Business Review article preceding the book. As relevant and influential as ever, it was recently released in a new edition, “The Experience Economy: Competing for Customer Time, Attention, and Money”.

In some ways, Albert Boswijk is Joe Pine’s European counterpart, however, with his unique perspective, splendidly complementary to the of Joe Pine. As the author of the book “Economy of Experiences” and founder of the European Centre for Experience and Transformation Economy, Boswijk is widely considered the leading expert on Experience Economy in Europe.

Both Pine and Boswijk are experienced and respected speakers, strategists and workshop facilitators. EIC2020: Retail is a rare opportunity to not only have them both presenting but actively involved in the collaborative session, which will make up most of the day in Copenhagen.

EIC2020: Retail sign-up now open for a limited number of participants

The collaborative group will be made up of individuals with an expertise in retail, who will join the exclusive event as paying attendees to learn, share and collaborate on a higher level. Some of the solutions and guidelines that the group comes up with are intended to be shared with other retail experience professionals in the form of the EIC2020: Retail report, which will be made available online, with every participant listed as contributors. The report, albeit valuable to the retail experience industry afterwards, will only be able to collect part of what will transpire throughout the day.

The participants, with their firsthand experience and interactive involvement in the EIC2020: Retail session, will obviously have more valuable insight and action items that they can apply to their strategy, tactics and operations immediately after returning home from Copenhagen.

EIC2020 is open for participants to sign up on the official website www.EIC2020Retail.com now. The number of participants is limited.

Integrated Storytelling takes on a new level https://www.adventurelabstudio.com/2019/12/10/integrated-storytelling-takes-on-a-new-level/ Tue, 10 Dec 2019 13:45:00 +0000 http://www.adventurelabstudio.com/?p=8304

For immediate release: Integrated Storytelling By AdventureLAB takes on a new level

December 10th, 2019

AdventureLAB now provides professional training in Integrated Storytelling across industries and markets at MBA level.

AdventureLAB, the Integrated Storytelling and experience design studio based in Denmark, have expanded their professional training range in new narrative methods and storytelling by design even further with a new agreement with the Danish Marketing association. AdventureLAB will provide the association with the only courses available in Danish in Integrated Storytelling.

New storytelling formats come of age

As new storytelling formats come of age as a competitive factor, AdventureLAB continues to sign agreements with associations and universities to provide professional training in their original Integrated Storytelling design methods. Methods that are useful for creating new ways of storytelling, and ways of experiencing them, including but not limited to interactive, nonlinear, modular, transmedia storytelling and themed and branded experiences. With their latest agreements, AdventureLAB now provides professional training in Integrated Storytelling across industries and markets at various levels ranging from short sessions, courses and masterclasses to MBA level.

Professional interest and seriousness

AdventureLAB is dedicated to the invention and creation of core creative strategies, concepts, stories and experiences, has provided training, masterclasses and sessions for professionals and students for years in collaboration with various associations, agencies and learning institutions including thenetworkone, Themed Entertainment Association, Estonian Marketing Association and VIA UC Film & Transmedia. Recently, the methods and principles developed and presented by AdventureLAB have been included as part of the Service Design and Management MBA at University of Tartu Pärnu College. This is something that the studio considers a verification of not only the level of training they provide but as a confirmation of the increasing professional interest and seriousness in new ways of using storytelling.

“It is gratifying to see that professionals from across industries are showing an interest in going beyond storytelling as a buzz word and finding meaningful applications for it within their organisations”, says Klaus Sommer Paulsen, CEO & Founder of AdventureLAB.

A dynamic, living story design concept for an international market

“Storytelling is not what storytelling was,” he continues. “The same applies to Integrated Storytelling. At AdventureLAB, we use it to create concepts and core stories, either as facilitators or developers, while also doing sessions and training around the world. While the key principles remain, the concept itself is alive as the living stories that are an essential part of it. We are constantly influenced by what we learn from applying and presenting the Integrated Storytelling principles, and we use that in our continuous development of our methods and programs.”

The interest in discovering new ways of creating integrated storylines is international, and in 2019 AdventureLAB have done presentations, sessions and masterclasses in various countries and states, including Aarhus (Denmark), Moscow (Russia), Tallinn (Estonia), London (UK), Birmingham (UK) and Orlando (Florida, US) on a list of locations that is already planned to expand well into 2020.
